Your proposal will be assessed by a panel of experts drawn from the population of stakeholders to the ESG dilemma: banking leaders, asset managers, investors, climate activists, civil society leaders, researchers, and regulators.

Expert Panelists
Scott Beckerman
Scott Beckerman is a Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Sustainability for Comerica Bank. As Director of Comerica’s sustainability program, Scott leads the bank’s enterprise-wide strategy and commitment to conduct its business and operations in a way that enhances the well-being of people and the communities in which Comerica does business. Scott works with colleagues throughout the bank to develop and execute programs and initiatives that address climate change, eliminate waste, capture operational efficiencies, improve environmental performance and demonstrate the value of socially and environmentally responsible behavior. Before becoming Sustainability Director, Scott led Comerica’s Environmental Risk Management Group and prior to joining Comerica, worked as a consulting engineer.
Scott holds a master’s degree in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Michigan. Currently, Scott leads the Bank Sustainability Roundtable and is a member of the Michigan Sustainable Business Roundtable. He also chairs the Board of Directors for EcoWorks Detroit. Scott is a Fellow with the Climate Safe Lending Network and was a founding board member of the Detroit 2030 District.
Luisa Brasil
Luisa brings extensive expertise in ESG strategy, sustainable finance, and impact investing. With a Master’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship from USC’s Marshall School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, her career has been focused on advancing sustainability in capital markets.
Currently serving as an Account Manager at CDP, Luisa supports organizations in their environmental risk management and disclosure. In her previous role within CDP’s Capital Markets program, she led data delivery for financial institutions and contributed to private market initiatives. She also has experience in venture capital, streamlining deal pipelines and developing tools for impact measurement, and has worked as an Impact and Innovation Management Consultant, supporting ESG reporting, corporate strategy, and sustainability initiatives aligned with the UN SDGs.
Luisa is committed to mentorship and community building, guiding aspiring angel investors through the AngelPath Academy and empowering women in the LatinX community via Latinas in Tech. Originally from Brazil, she has lived and worked across Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, bringing a global perspective to her work. Currently based in Los Angeles, she strives to foster collaboration and drive innovation in sustainable finance.
Elizabeth Doty
Elizabeth Doty has served as the Director of the Erb Institute’s Corporate Political Responsibility Taskforce since its launch in 2021. For 30 years, she has helped leading companies implement their business strategies, improve employee engagement and retain customers by aligning across functions and delivering on their commitments. Since 2012, Elizabeth has focused on business’ role in addressing larger societal challenges and strengthening trust in civic institutions.
As a Lab Fellow at the Edmond Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard she led research on the challenges of “commitment drift” in large organizations. Her book, “The Compromise Trap,” was published in the aftermath of the 2008 Financial Crisis. Based on that work, she was recognized as a Top Thought Leader in Trust, and has designed and led executive-level programs for Fortune 500 companies, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Presidio Graduate School and the US Department of Defense.
Elizabeth earned her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1991 and serves on the advisory boards of several non-partisan initiatives working to reduce destructive political conflict and promote US civic renewal.
Matt Elliott
Matt Elliott is a notable sustainability and financial executive with over 30 years of experience in commercial lending, capital markets, and corporate finance.

Most recently, Matt served as President of Bank of America Michigan and Sustainability Executive for Business Banking and Global Commercial Banking. In these roles, he drove strategy for sustainable finance, leading the largest sustainability activation of middle-market businesses in North America and delivering over $37 billion in sustainability-related capital to the middle market.

Prior to his sustainability role, Matt led Bank of America’s Business Banking unit in the Midwest, and Global Commercial Banking for Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
​
Matt is known for his transformational leadership, with a track record of significantly enhancing employee engagement and driving community support. A strong advocate for Detroit and the state of Michigan, Matt has chaired the Detroit Regional Chamber and led the 2023 Mackinac Policy Conference.

Matt holds a B.A. from the Eli Broad School of Business at Michigan State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He has also been recognized as a "Notable Leader in Sustainability" by Crain's Detroit Business and New York Business.
Joe Pigg
Joe serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Counsel for Sustainable Banking and Mortgage Finance at the American Bankers Association. Since joining the ABA in 1997, Joe has provided counsel on housing, real estate finance, community and economic development, Federal Home Loan Bank and other government sponsored enterprise related issues as well as on general financial industry issues. At ABA, Joe oversaw the creation of ABA’s Federal Home Loan Bank Committee, and its ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Working Group and Climate Task Force. In addition to GSE and FHLB issues, Joe also oversees ABA’s mutual bank, and ESG and Sustainable Banking efforts.

Prior to his tenure at the ABA, Joe was a legislative representative for the City of New York, and a banking aide to U.S. Representative Doug Bereuter of Nebraska. Joe worked closely on the development of the HUD Section 184 Indian Housing Loan Guarantee program as well as the development and implementation of a variety of rural housing programs.

A native of Homer, Nebraska, Joe graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska where he received a B.A. in English Literature, and Georgetown University Law Center where he earned his J.D. He lives in Washington, DC.
Chad Spitler
Chad Spitler is Founder & CEO of Third Economy, a sustainable investment research and consulting firm. In 2020, Chad Spitler was named by the US National Association of Corporate Directors one of the “100 Most Influential People in Corporate Governance”, an accolade earned from over 25 years of helping grow and establish the field of ESG. Chad launched Third Economy in 2018 in response to growing investor interest in his areas of expertise, sustainable and responsible investing. Chad spent four years prior as Partner, Head of Sustainability Advisory, and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at PJT CamberView. He spent 15 years prior to that at BlackRock, where he last held the role of Managing Director and COO for the Corporate Governance & Responsible Investment team. In that role, he led the team responsible for analysis of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors within the firm’s investment processes globally across the asset classes of public equity (including proxy voting), fixed income, real estate, and private equity. Prior to BlackRock, Chad was a Senior Market Research Analyst with the Franklin Templeton Group.
Chad is a member of the finance working group of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (SFBCDC), an Adjunct Professor at Presidio Graduate School and San Francisco State University, and a member of the Dean’s External Advisory Board at the University of Michigan’s School for the Environment and Sustainability.
He received an MA degree from the University of Colorado, and a B.S. degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Michigan.
